QUARRY STORIES
Inspired by critical posthumanist philosophy, the project explores how architecture can challenge human-centred perspectives through storytelling as method and tool.
Through experimental working methods, field trips to Venice and Gotland, and extensive research, three stories were developed. Each story takes a non-human actor as its starting point and explores a particular quality or action. Together they raise questions of circularity, coexistence, and entanglement between human and non-human worlds.
The result is three design proposals for the limestone quarries Vaktbackar, Slite and Furillen on Gotland: Fossil Cemetery, Insect Institute and Funghiania.
The project resulted in a book collecting the project's research, stories and design proposals, and an exhibition shown on Gotland in 2024.
